Slow Fade

Harpooned in the gut

By my own desire for fame

Social media and poetry

Stealing my blood down the drain

I feel so alone

Gagging, waving hands in misery’s suspense

Life flashing before my eyes

Who am I to sleep and rest

Shackled to myself

Fading away

I eat at soul and being

With every word from my mouth

I lie in waste today

Not ready to black out

Too accomplished to fade away

I wrestle with death in a pitiable play

The queen strikes the dust, casting me down

The words in which you love

Are my suffering today

The eclipse of the heart

Before it slips away
