Tilling my mind for something to wish for

The things people ask for don’t sustain

The things presented as presents hardly last

Past the night

If I could find something, someone

To last the weekend, I’d consider myself lucky

And anything longer than that, call me blessed

People say to ask for more, and prepare

Yourself for it

But I think on the dark side of the world

The ones without light, without power

Without the surplus of food to be concerned

About weight loss supplements and diets

Do they even have?

Never mind enough

I ask for others more often than myself

Because I’ve been dealt a kinder hand

Than many before and after

And I might fall into laughter

Keeping me from tearing up

At the people I love

Yet know won’t make it

To sunset

I'm interested in hearing what you have to say
