When In Rome

when in Rome

do as you might do

if our child had just been born

eyes barely open, still crying

because this new world is so painful

when the mirage, the Coliseum, is falling

and everything we’ve ever held true

becomes dust before our eyes

find within yourself the hero

you wouldn’t leave the newborn to die

so find a way to stay alive

people can be your enemy, or your friends

the moon told me

what is Rome? why do we care to imitate

murderers and sex addicts

and upon the cross they lifted the innocent

when gunshots are synonymous

with school time

we do the same
